Who are you?

Miles Davis said, “It takes a long time to sound like yourself.” Let me take a moment to indulge in a reflection: I’ve learned a lot during this gap year. I’ve learned that all this time spent away from people, all this supposed loneliness and isolation, all of it has resulted in an unexpected yet satisfying outcome: I’ve begun to sound like myself.

Society shouldn’t decide who you are—you need to figure that out on your own. It’s easier said than done. It’s tough and lonely and at times you feel like you want to scream. But it can make you stronger, and you will save yourself from years of living with half-dreams, half-truths, and half-hearts.

P.S. International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia, and Biphobia. Let’s try to be kinder and gentler to one another.
