We finished the easel today! It’s nothing fancy, but it’s functional, sturdy, and most importantly, it’s ours. Built by our own hands. (I’m surprised that my palms aren’t riddled with blisters after all the twisting and chafing they’ve been through. Lesson learned: make sure the power drill has working batteries so you don’t have to resort to nails and brute force).

There’s a handful of reasons why DIY projects are the way to go, but my favorite is that I am gifted with the process and experience—an echoing hammer, jagged motions of the handsaw, the day fading as the final product brings smiles to our haggard faces.
