The Few and the Brave

This is for those who have worked their best and plowed through tears, driven to exhaustion, only to be shaken and torn by a single label or grade letter or scathing phrase:

You are crossing a body of water. A strand of kelp slithers out to snap itself around your ankle. It twists and tightens. You hesitate. What now?

Cut it loose. Only then will you be able to wade freely into the dance of water. You will have to swim and battle the occasional wave, but in the end, you will greet a dry and warm land. That strand of kelp? Worth little, still drifting near the opposite shore as you build your fires and your future.
