Cycling

In the neighborhood:

  • older generations with handheld radios and crackling Chinese opera
  • crunching leaves under stained tires
  • juxtaposition of the heat on my back versus the breeze in my face
  • breathing in the scents of well-kept gardens
  • thinking about friends

Climbing up a hill:

  • sweat beads on my forehead
  • thoughts: why in the world am I doing this?
  • summit: oh this is why (sunlit view of a silhouetted city)
  • the way down: oh, this is why (wind streaking through a damp shirt and licking off the heat; the speed, the adrenaline, the freedom)
